PBIS

What is PBIS?

PBIS or Positive Behavior Interventions Systems, is a research based practice that emphasizes the creation of systems that help to teach students what appropriate behaviors are in different settings and rewards those behaviors in a positive way.

Research on PBIS

It is well known that students succeed academically in schools when they feel like their learning environment is safe and predictable.  The PBIS framework that we are using and developing is allowing us to have a way to teach students clear social and behavioral expectations.  In doing so student behavior is directly impacted and schoolwide we are creating a positive and safe environment that is conducive to learning.  We are super excited to see the continued impact of PBIS at Tates Creek!

We are CREEK

Here at TCHS we use the saying “We are CREEK”, with each of the letters of CREEK being a behavior that is expected from our students.

C-Connected

R-Responsible

E-Exceptional

E-Engaged

K-Kind

Students are taught what it looks like to have these behaviors in the classroom, hallways, restrooms, and cafeteria and on school grounds.  You will see reminders of the “We are CREEK” mantra all throughout the school and even on some of our t-shirts!

Positive Interventions

eBucks

eBucks is a fake currency that students receive when they are caught exhibiting one of the above mentioned behaviors.  eBucks can be used in a couple different ways.  They can purchase items from the school eBucks store or save their eBucks to purchase tickets to our incentive events.

Positive Recognitions

When a student is caught doing something exceptional a teacher can write them a positive recognition in our online system.  This recognition will then be sent to their academy principal who will make sure the student receives the recognition.  This is typically done by calling the student in for a conference, giving them a certificate and possibly even a positive phone call home.

How can you help?

We typically give away gift cards, Creek gear, and any other items that are generously donated to our prize fund.  If you are interested in donating something to the weekly prize drawings, we would greatly appreciate it.  You can drop items off in the front office and let them know it’s for PBIS or contact our PBIS coach, Amanda Sewell.

Talk to your students about our Creek expectations and remind them the importance of being connected, responsible, engaged, exceptional, and kind.
