TCHS Boasts 2026 KEA Teacher of the Year

Tates Creek High School’s Amanda Sewell has received the 2026 Kentucky Educators Association (KEA) Teacher of the Year Award.

Sewell, who joined Fayette County Public Schools about 13 years ago, teaches Family Consumer Sciences in the Early Childhood Education pathway at Tates Creek. She previously taught a year in Harrison County. “My favorite part of my job is creating a safe, comfortable space for my students to exist in,” she said.

A native of Greenup, Sewell earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky and her master’s from the University of the Cumberlands. Outside the classroom, she has experience as chair of Read Across America, secretary of the Fayette County Education Association, and social media manager for the Central District and local union.

As winner of the KEA statewide award, Sewell advances to compete in the National Education Association’s Horace Mann Awards for Teaching Excellence. She can also attend the NEA Salute to Excellence in Education Gala next February.
