From Tates Creek to Main Street: Student Art on Display

We are proud to announce a special exhibition featuring the work of our junior and senior art students, now on display at the Lexington Mayor’s Office.

Originally part of a 44-piece suite debuted in November 2025, these works represent a diverse group of 39 student artists with roots spanning North America, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.

The Exhibition

  • Dates: Jan. 9 – Feb. 28, 2026

  • Location: Lexington Mayor's Office, 200 East Main Street

Masterpiece in the Making

Under the direction of instructor Mike Holdren, students spent seven weeks mastering technical challenges. Each artist developed a five-painting portfolio based on global photography, focusing on:

  • Atmospheric Texture: Creating tactile, realistic surfaces.

  • Spatial Depth: Using vanishing points and horizon lines to create three-dimensional light and space.

"The students worked very hard to resolve complex pictorial issues... the results are a testament to their dedication." — Mike Holdren, Instructor

We invite the entire Lexington community to visit the Mayor's Office and celebrate the global perspectives and immense talent of our Tates Creek Commodores.
