College and Career Readiness Coach

Phone:  859-422-0041 x58098

Mykila Christopher

I am a proud graduate of Tates Creek High School and am honored to now serve students in the same community that helped shape me. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies from the University of Kentucky and my Master’s degree in Strategic Management from the University of the Cumberlands.

Much of my professional experience has focused on supporting adolescents and young adults through roles involving juvenile justice, youth homelessness, and foster care case management. Working with young people has always been a passion of mine, and helping students discover their potential is something that brings me great joy.

As the College & Career Readiness Coach, my goal is to help every student develop a plan for life after high school—whether that means attending college, entering the workforce, joining the military, or pursuing another career pathway. I am here to provide guidance, resources, and support to help students take the next step toward their goals.

I have tons of resources available and would love to connect with you! Please feel free to stop by my office in the Media Center, Room 207E, or visit my website at http://bit.ly/ccrtchs.

Andrea Covarrubias

Hello, my name is Andréa Covarrubias. I was raised in the Tates Creek area. I attended Millcreek Elementary, Tates Creek Middle, and graduated from Tates Creek High School. I also cheered varsity while in attendance. I completed undergrad at The University of Kentucky with a bachelors in Spanish. I am currently in graduate school at the University of Kentucky pursuing a masters in social work. Once completed, I will continue my education towards a doctorate in social work. I have a natural inclination towards serving others. The Youth Services Center works alongside staff, community partners, and agencies to eliminate and/or reduce barriers that impede one's education. Students and their families may utilize services provided by the center while in attendance. The YSC is in room E106

Stephanie Bruce

I have served our students and families at Tates Creek since 2008, first as a School Counselor and now as a Mental Health Specialist. I graduated from Eastern Ky University with a Bachelors in Psychology and a Minor in Child & Family Studies. I also received a Masters in Education, School Counseling Degree and my Rank 1 Certification from EKU. I earned my certification as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in 2023. My role as a Mental Health Specialist is to provide individual counseling services and mental health support to students who are struggling with a variety of personal, social, or emotional issues and concerns. I also refer students to outside agencies when additional support and therapeutic interventions are needed. I work closely with our school’s MTSS team to identify students who need support and grades, attendance, behavior, and relationships are being impacted. Academic success and potential is increased when children have positive mental health and access to appropriate services. Students can sign up to meet with me here: Appointment Request

Adam Hovekamp

I came to Lexington as a student at UK and chose to stay in Lexington and call it home.  I completed my Masters in School Social Work in 2011 and have worked with Fayette County Public Schools in some capacity since then.  I have served many different schools in a variety of positions.  I have worked in Special Education, technology, as a guidance counselor, a school social worker, and now as a mental health specialist.  The theme through all of those roles and departments: helping others.  My role is to provide mental health supports to students, whether it be talking to me or connecting them with outside services.  Students are welcome to stop by my office (207f in the Media Center) on days that I am at Creek.  However, I serve three different schools in two buildings and thus am rarely in the same place back-to-back days, so the best way to contact me is via email or using our Appointment Request form.
